Gmail connection

Referral Finder can search your Gmail for referral invitations you may have forgotten. Here’s what Reforra reads, what it keeps, and how to disconnect.

Why Reforra connects to Gmail

Referral invitations and reward links often sit in old emails. When you connect Gmail and choose Search my email in Referral Finder, Reforra looks for those links so you can review them. If you find a referral you want to share, you can choose to publish it on Reforra. Nothing is published automatically — you select the referral and confirm it on Publish.

Before anything happens, Connect Gmail opens a summary of what Reforra reads, keeps, and lets you publish. Reforra sends you to Google only if you choose Continue to Google; closing the summary doesn’t connect Gmail.

Results can include invitations from friends or other senders, not only brands. Only publish referral links you have the right or permission to share (see our Terms).

What Reforra reads

  • Reforra uses Google’s read-only Gmail permission. It can’t send, change, or delete your email.
  • Only when you run a search: up to 25 emails from the last 365 days that match referral keywords such as “refer a friend”, “invite friends”, or “referral”. Gmail’s Social and Forums categories are skipped.
  • For those emails, Reforra accesses message headers, such as sender, subject, and date, and the message text needed to detect referral links and rewards. Attachments aren’t downloaded.
  • When you connect, Reforra reads your Gmail address to show which account is linked.
  • Detection runs on Reforra’s own rules. Email content isn’t sent to AI services.

What Reforra keeps

  • Stored: your Gmail address, Google access tokens (encrypted before they’re saved), and connection details such as when you connected and last searched.
  • Not stored: email content. Message text, subjects, senders, and headers aren’t saved in Reforra’s database. Search results appear in your browser for you to review in Referral Finder.
  • Search results may include the referral link and the original link found in the email, brand and brand domain, reward details, the sender’s display name (not their email address), sender domain, subject, received date, the Gmail message ID, and labels from Reforra’s rules describing the email. Full message text isn’t sent to your browser.
  • If you select a referral to publish, the selected referral link and brand details are carried to Publish in your browser so you can review them. Email text isn’t included.
  • If you confirm on Publish, the referral becomes one of your published referrals: the link and the details you confirm are saved and shown to other Reforra visitors like any other referral you publish, and you can edit or remove it in My Referrals. The email itself is never published.

Disconnect Gmail in Reforra

Open Referral Finder, select Disconnect Gmail next to “Connected as…”, and confirm. If your saved connection needs to be reconnected, Disconnect Gmail appears next to that notice instead. Reforra asks Google to revoke its access and deletes your saved Gmail connection, including the encrypted tokens.

Remove access from your Google Account

You can also remove Reforra’s access at myaccount.google.com/connections. Reforra detects revoked access when it next attempts to use the Gmail connection, such as when you search your email. When Google reports that access was removed, Reforra deletes the saved connection. Because Sign in with Google uses the same Reforra app, Google may ask you to approve Reforra again the next time you sign in.

After you disconnect

  • Reforra can’t search your Gmail until you connect again.
  • Referrals you already published stay on Reforra until you edit or remove them in My Referrals.
  • You can connect Gmail again anytime; Google will ask for permission again.

Deleting Gmail-related data

Disconnecting deletes the saved Gmail connection right away. Apart from referrals you chose to publish, Reforra doesn’t keep other data from your Gmail. To ask us to confirm deletion, or to delete your Reforra account, email hello@reforra.co from the address you sign in with.
